With these latest appointments to the Canadian senate we are unmistakably being set up for the big one here. Harper can’t continue appointing party hacks and loyalists without an endgame in mind. The man is too smart just to continue supporting the status quo. My take is that all these latest entries are taking their seats in the Upper House knowing full well that they will not be serving longer than a term before this much maligned institution becomes an elected chamber or abolished altogether. Frankly, I think the first option will be the easier sell with the provinces when it comes to implementing senate reform. Harper sees Senate reform, like the repatriation of the constitution was to Trudeau, as his place in Canadian history.
